The Amgen Tour of California, the largest cycling event in America, starts at Lake Tahoe in May of 2011. Tahoe has long been recognized as a cycling mecca—and what better venue for a world-class event than these majestic peaks. Cycling enthusiasts and spectators alike will be able to watch the pros push the envelope in this exciting Tour de France-style race with scenery of astounding beauty as the backdrop—and all at 6,300 feet of elevation!
Lake Tahoe’s first-ever involvement in the race will see professional cyclists climbing up and down mountain passes and circumnavigating the Lake not once but twice, culminating with a grand finish at Northstar-at Tahoe™ Resort. Stage 2 will showcase the stunning peaks of Squaw Valley in a photo-worthy start to the day.
